Once I was here. Stayed for about 4 months. The house has no water and electricity. It is located just behind the big mosque in Port Loko. The road is dusty. So, early morning and at night, together with other boys in the house, I would go to the river, to take my bath. Our cook was Mr Edward, he is from Lungi. He was with us when we were in Lungi and we brought him here. We paid him well. This guy is a very good cook. He can cook western food. He told us that he was once a cook at a hotel in town, and we believed him.
When we got our generator that was air lifted from Freetown, I extended the wire to the mosque so that they have lights during prayers. However my boss who was from Russia was not happy and I have to cut the line. So instead, I bought them few hurricane lamps. I once argued with him, how come Christians missionary under the disguise of giving aids were given free air lift to places they like to go, and here I am just extended the line to the mosque, giving them just one bulb, and he can't allow.
Well, that is why Malaysian soldiers like me is always able to win the heart and mind of the people, compare to other soldiers. I can't blame them, they were not taught by the British.
There were soldiers from Guinea to the east side of town. These soldiers about a company strength only speak French. Communication was almost nil. Futher East is where we get our drinking water that we hand pump from the well.
