Rimba Ilmu literally means jungle of knowledge. Personally, it is not much of knowledge but the place is really really nice, beautiful, very peaceful, cool etc etc. The moment you step into the area, you will forget that you are in the City of Kuala Lumpur. There are birds, streams with very clear water, and fishes.
You cannot imagine University Malaya is conserving a jungle so nicely that deserve an appreciation by the govt and NGOs. From herbs, bamboos, orchids, palms, you name it and they are there. I was shown a plant many times better than Gambir Sarawak and Tongkat Ali planted there. All have both scientific and local names. Very beneficial to students, Scouts, Girl Guides and general public too.
The place should be in the list for visitors especially school childrens and foreign lecturers. Let them eat and drink at the wooden building in the centre and that is good enough for them to enjoy the cool and peaceful environment of Rimba Ilmu. A simple A3 size guide also help.
I think if UM let free some wild birds in this jungle, the effect will be tremendous. I dont know, it is only my lay man opinion.
To me, all students and staff must visit the place at least once while they are there. The place is very clean [welldone to the Head of Biology Science], no climbing although it is hilly. From one end to another is only about 700m. Public vehicle not allowed beacuse the road is not meant to take the weight.
